How to Register

While Summer at Columbia is an open admissions program for high school students, it is built around a series of accredited courses within Columbia College Chicago’s academic curriculum. All students will receive a grade built around the learning outcomes of each course, and this grade will be a part of their official college transcript.

Tuition and Fees: $5,900 (includes Immersion Program tuition, room and board, and events)

  1. Create your family account. Please note that an adult will need to do this, and teens can be added to the account later.
  2. Select one of the Summer at Columbia commuter or immersion courses and add it to your cart.
  3. Pay your deposit. Payment by all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover) is available.

Register Via Phone

Call our Student Services Desk at 312-369-3100 during regular office hours to speak with a Student Services Specialist. Registrations are accepted from 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Payment by credit card is accepted.

Register In Person

Stop by our Student Services Desk on the 1st floor of the Sherwood building, 1312 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL during regular office hours to register and pay in person. Payment by credit card, check and cash (exact change only) is accepted for in-person registrations.

International Students

Each year, students from around the globe attend high school programs at Columbia College Chicago. International students bring the world to Columbia's campus and provide opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue and collaboration. We provide international students with a cutting-edge arts education in a world-class city.

Additional requirements for non-U.S. students include:

Proof of English Proficiency
Our courses will be taught in English and we need to make sure that you have the language ability to successfully complete the course. We have many ways to prove your proficiency and they include:

  • You have attended school at the secondary level (high school) for at least three years full-time where the language of instruction is English or,
  • You live in a country where English is the primary language or,
  • You have a TOEFL score of 70 iBT, or an IELTS score of 6.0

Visa & Insurance

  • You may attend on a tourist visa (B1/B2) or ESTA
  • We currently do not issue documents for students to apply for an F-1 Student Visa.
  • Please ensure that you can stay in the USA on a tourist visa for the amount of time it takes to complete this program.
  • You must submit proof of international insurance coverage

International student airport pick-ups can be arranged by Columbia College Chicago. International students will receive additional support during orientation including an opportunity to gather with other international students and Columbia's international student support team members.

Registration FAQ

How much do I have to pay when I register?
A $500 deposit is required per student at the time of registration for the Commuter Program, and a $1000 deposit is required for students opting for the Residential Immersion Program. You may also opt to pay in full at the time of registration if you prefer. If you do not pay in full, we require a credit or debit card be kept on file which we will charge automatically on the future payment due dates indicated below.

What happens after I register?
We want to know as much as we can about our new Summer at Columbia students! A few days to a few weeks after you register, you will receive an email with a link to a supplementary registration form to be completed and returned back to us by the student. A short essay will be required.  

How and when do I pay the remaining balance?
We will automatically charge your credit or debit card for 50 percent of the balance due on May 1, 2017, then again on June 15, 2017 for the remaining balance.

What if I register after the final payment due date of June 15, 2017?
Registrations that come in after the final due date of June 15, 2017, will require payment in full at the time of registration.

What about refunds?
A full refund of all funds paid, minus a $50 withdrawal fee, will be granted for all cancellations requested before April 1, 2017. Cancellation requests made after April 1, 2017, but before May 1, 2017, will forfeit the $500 deposit, but will not be obligated to pay the remaining balance.

Cancellation requests made after May 1, 2017 will not be honored, and the full tuition due will still be required.

What happens if registration fills up?
In the event that registration is full for the class you prefer, you may opt to be placed on a waiting list via our registration system. If a student withdraws from the class, the next person on the waiting list will be notified and given the opportunity to register.

Do you offer financial aid?
Yes! Please download and read the following two documents to understand and apply for financial aid. All financial aid applications for the Summer at Columbia program must be submitted by April 15, 2017, in order to be processed in time before the May 1 payment date.
