HOUSING AND MEALS
ON CAMPUS HOUSING
Summer at Columbia offers on-campus living for all our immersion programs. Living on-campus provides you with the following benefits:
Shared room on campus at University Center, 525 S. State Street, with the support of Residence Life staff and 24-hour security personnel
Access to Student Health Services and Student Counseling Services
Scheduled time and a centralized location for study and homework with your Summer at Columbia peers
Summer at Columbia also allows students to commute to campus everyday. Although we strongly recommend students live on campus, living off-campus during the program could be an option for you if:
You live nearby, or are staying with a friend or family member nearby, and can easily commute via public transportation. Summer at Columbia is located in downtown Chicago where parking and traffic concerns can adversely impact your ability to get to Summer at Columbia events on time, so only plan on commuting if you have easy access to Metra or CTA.
Your family is staying in a hotel near campus and sightseeing or vacationing while you attend Summer at Columbia.
A 15-meal per week plan at University Center dining hall is included for residential students.
Students will be responsible for all other meals, so be sure to bring a debit or credit card with enough money to feed yourself for three weeks. We recommend a minimum of $100 per week of spending money for meals. Each floor of University Center is equipped with a communal kitchen, so students are also welcome to prepare their own meals.
