CAMP overview and classes

The Summer Arts and Media Camp at Columbia College Chicago is a unique full-day urban camp program for young creatives ages 6 through 11. Featuring experienced teachers and counselors, small class-sizes, guest workshops, and access to Columbia’s state-of-the-art facilities in the South Loop neighborhood of Chicago, the Summer Arts and Media Camp introduces campers to a wide variety of artistic disciplines that reflect the vibrant and diverse Columbia curriculum.

Each two-week camp is built around a theme and incorporates classes from four different content areas: Performance Arts, Visual Arts, Digital Media Arts, and Art Explorations. Students rotate between all content areas daily which introduces them to an array of creative disciplines. From old favorites like drawing to exciting new skills in hip-hop, Summer Arts and Media Camp will help your child find his or her own unique creative path. Example classes from previous sessions include…

Performance Arts: Theatre, Acting for the Camera, Gloving, Circus Arts
Visual Arts: Manga Drawing, Sculpture, Painting, Graphic Novels
Digital Arts: Experimental Filmmaking, Photography, Website Design
Guest Workshops: Fashion Design, Origami, Stage Combat

This camp has increased my daughter’s leadership and organizational skills as well as highlighted how to work in groups.

Students will be divided into groups based on grade levels to ensure classes and activities are appropriately customized. Each group will be assigned one to two counselors who will join them throughout the duration of the day, including class and recreation time. Groups will rotate between classes and have the opportunity to work with all teaching artists every day. Teaching artists are experienced in their respective disciplines and will work closely with counselors to tailor activities to each group.

Sessions are designed to balance between stationary and movement-based arts activities to keep students engaged and attentive. This, coupled with extended play time at lunch, ensures students will exercise their physical as well as creative energies. All campers will be together for kick-off, lunch, and end of day activities.

This camp was spectacular. You really took care of my child and allowed her to grow over the weeks she was here.
