Columbia College Chicago and The Old Town School of Folk Music have announced a strategic long-term partnership that will increase arts programming for all ages in the growing South Loop community. Effective September 1, 2019, the Old Town School of Folk Music will assume responsibility for the South Loop-based Sherwood Community Music School, located at 1312 S. Michigan Avenue. New Saturday Pre-College Program Announced

Beginning in February 2020, Columbia College Chicago will be introducing its new Semester at Columbia pre-college program for creative high schoolers. Taking place on Saturdays over 15 weeks, Semester at Columbia will give Chicago-area teens the opportunity to explore their creativity and earn college credit that can be used toward their degree. All courses will be taught by our award-winning, industry-active faculty. More details coming soon.

Fall 2019 Old Town School Classes in the South Loop

Registration is now open for Old Town School at Columbia College kids classes at our 1312 South Michigan Ave. location, including Kids’ Music, Kids Dance. and Adult Group Piano.

In January 2020, Old Town School will roll out its traditional group guitar and other signature Old Town School programming, increasing arts opportunities for South Loop residents and Chicagoans of all ages.

Summer 2020 Pre-College Programs

Right now, we are working on solidifying the cohorts for our 2020 Summer at Columbia High School Immersion. Last year, over 70 high schoolers from around the world earned college credit and learned about careers in the creative industries, and the 2020 program will feature programs in Filmmaking, Game Development, Business, Art and Design, Music, and more.

Old Town School and Columbia College Chicago Announce New Strategic Partnership, Increasing Arts Opportunities for South Loop Community

Effective September 1, 2019, the Old Town School will assume responsibility for the South Loop-based Sherwood Community Music School, 1312 S. Michigan Avenue, which merged with Columbia in July 2007. Starting with the Fall session, Old Town School of Folk Music at Columbia College Chicago will manage existing Sherwood School individual music instruction in addition to launching its celebrated Wiggleworms® early childhood music program (which will replace the current Music Together early childhood offering).

Columbia College Chicago’s first-ever Student Center is open to our community of creatives

The five-story, 114,000 square-foot space is the campus hub for gathering, collaborating, learning and celebrating. The Student Center is a stage, a canvas, a hub for innovation and creativity—a place to Shape What’s Next.
