Laura Ohms

Early Childhood

Laura Ohms received her BS in Social Work at Taylor University and her MSW from Dominican University. Laura studied voice and piano growing up and throughout college. The highlight of her college experience was singing in her University Chorale alongside many other exceptional musicians.

With a special love for creating and directing youth choirs, Laura has practiced social work in the school setting, residential facilities, and community based mental health, all the while seeking to integrate her love for music along the way! She has also taught fine arts, led a drumming group, and created an improvisation community support group. Laura has a deep appreciation for creative intervention modalities and is honored to be a part of the change process with those she has worked with.

Throughout her practice, she has found that the arts are a critical component to the healing, growth, and development process for all ages. Laura is the founder of Music Alive! and a Licensed Music Together Center Director, serving Chicago’s Northwest neighborhoods. She is thrilled to be offering Music Together classes at Sherwood during the Spring session.
